Dr. Jeffrey Towbin, MD, Senior Advisory Consultant
Dr. Jeffrey Towbin, MD, serves as Senior Advisory Consultant to Harris Search Associates on academic medicine assignments providing insight, national relationships, and additional vetting of candidates on behalf of client institution committees and our firm.
Dr. Towbin most recently serves as Vice Chair of Pediatrics for Strategy Advancement at Le Bonheur Children's and UT Health Science Center. He previously served as Professor, Chief of Pediatric Cardiology, Chief Pediatric Cardiology Research and Executive Co-Director, Heart Institute at University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
Dr. Towbin is also Director of Cardiology and Co-director of the Heart Instiute at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, to which he returned from Texas Children’s Hospital in 2008. He earned his BS, MS and MD from the University of Cincinnati and served his pediatric residency at Cincinnati Children’s.
Both a clinician and a researcher, he has done pioneering work on genetic mutations that cause congenital heart problems in children and earned him the 2007 Distinguished Scientist Award (Basic) from the American College of Cardiology for “major contributions to the field of cardiovascular disease.”
In 2013 the American Heart Association awarded Dr. Towbin its Basic Research Award.
Before returning to University of Cincinnati, Dr. Towbin served in numerous capacities, including:
• Chief of Cardiology
• Director of the Muzzy Pediatric Molecular Cardiology Laboratory
• Medical director of the Pediatric Cardiomyopathy and Heart Failure Service
• Professor of pediatrics, cardiovascular diagnostic laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine, Saint Luke’s Hospital, and the Texas Heart Institute
Dr. Towbin continues as an international leader in cardiology research and has contributed approximately 475 peer-reviewed publications, has run a large lab for over 20 years, and has been continually funded since the 1987.
