Akinlolu Ojo

Senior Advisory Consultant

Dr. Akinlolu Ojo, (“Lolu”) serves as Senior Advisory Consultant to Harris Search Associates on academic medicine assignments providing insight, national relationships, and vetting of candidates on behalf of client institution committees and our firm.

Dr. Ojo most recently serves as Executive Dean of the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where he oversees the Kansas City, Salina, and Wichita campuses for the School of Medicine. Prior to the University of Kansas, he served as the Associate Vice President for Clinical Research and Global Health Initiatives Professor of Nephrology and Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Arizona.

Lolu previously directed the Department of Medicine Global Health Research Initiative and the joint University of Michigan-International Society of Nephrology (UM-ISN) fellowship program to promote the training of nephrologists from developing countries at the University of Michigan. He was the Program Director for the HRSA/DOT-funded National Living Donor Assistance Center (NLDAC) which provides reimbursement to financially needy live organ donors for non-medical expenses incurred in the process of donating an organ.

Currently, he manages NIH grants of more than $14 million including clinical trials to prevent onset diabetes after transplantation and a cohort study of chronic renal insufficiency. He has published more than 120 peer-reviewed articles and served on the editorial boards of several journals and on NIH study sections.

Dr. Ojo completed his medical education (MD) at the University of Lagos and his residency training in internal medicine at the University of Kentucky. He earned his PhD in Epidemiology and MBA from the University of Michigan.
