Harris Search Associates has recruited Dr. Mildred A. Pointer as the next Chair of the Department of Biology at Howard University.
Dr. Pointer currently serves as Full Professor of Biological and Biomedical Sciences at the North Carolina Central University. She also holds Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Wake Forest University School of Medicine as well as Affiliate Appointments in Hypertension and Vascular Research Center of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
Dr. Pointer has been continually funded as a PI of projects since 2005, four years after joining the faculty at NCCU with the charge of establishing an independent research program. Since that time, individual projects have brought in over $5.3 million in directs and indirects and an additional $8 million in directs and indirects as multiple PI of a program grant. Her population studies project is in its fourth 5-yr cycle of funding.
The Department of Biology at Howard University has established a strong instructional and research unit in contemporary biological sciences and maintains a faculty that is committed to optimizing the pursuit of new knowledge and the discovery of new information through original research and to the communication of specialized information and skills.
