Harris Search Associates has recruited Dr. Sue Ann Sisto as Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Science at the University at Buffalo. The announcement was made by Dr. Jean Wactawski-Wende, Dean of the School of Public Health and Health Professions.
"I am pleased to announce that Sue Ann Sisto, PT, MA, PhD, FACRM has agreed to serve as our next chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Science in the School of Public Health and Health Professions, effective January 2018. Dr. Sisto’s appointment results from an extensive international search conducted by Harris Search Associates.
Dr. Sisto is currently the chair and professor of the Physical Therapy PhD program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Stony Brook University. She also serves as the concentration director for Rehabilitation and Movement Sciences, and is the director of the Rehabilitation Research and Movement Performance (RRAMP) Laboratory at Stony Brook University. Dr. Sisto received her BS in physical therapy from St. Louis University, MA in physical therapy from New York University (NYU), and PhD also from NYU. She has been a physical therapist for over 32 years with a specialization in pathokinesiology. Dr. Sisto has focused her work on the evaluation of movement using 3D movement analysis technology, electromyography, kinetic analysis and metabolic exercise capacity. In 2012, she became the first physical therapist to be named a fellow of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM), which recognizes individuals who make significant contributions to the field of medical rehabilitation.
I am excited to be able to recruit someone with Dr. Sisto’s leadership experience and academic accomplishments, which is a testament to the quality and potential of the department, school, and university at large.
As we welcome Dr. Sisto, I would also like to recognize and thank Dr. Susan Bennett for serving as interim chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Science since September 2016. Dr. Bennett has done a tremendous job leading the department this past year - during two accreditation periods for both our PT and OT programs. And this could not have been done with the dedication of all faculty and staff.
I would like to recognize the hard work of the search committee who helped bring this search to a successful conclusion, including Dr. David Hostler (committee chair, (Exercise and Nutrition Sciences), Dr. Ann Bisantz (Industrial and Systems Engineering), Dr. Nadine Fisher (Rehabilitation Science), Dr. Patricia Ohtake (Rehabilitation Science), Dr. Kirkwood Personius (Rehabilitation Science), Dr. Kimberley Persons (Rehabilitation Science), Dr. Jennifer Temple (Exercise and Nutrition Sciences), Ms. Laura Terreri (student representative, Rehabilitation Science), Dr. Janice Tona (Rehabilitation Science), and Dr. Bianca Weinstock-Guttman (Neurology).
Please join me in congratulating the Department of Rehabilitation Science, and welcoming Dr. Sisto to the University at Buffalo School of Public Health and Health Professions."
