UC Davis has selected Harris Search Associates to lead the search for the Director of Animal Care/Deputy Institutional Official. Reporting jointly to the Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer and the Vice Chancellor for Research, the Deputy Institutional Official is responsible for long-range planning and harmonizing the currently distributed operations of over 1 million square feet of animal holding space in 200+ buildings, managed by separate vivarium managers with differing financial structures.
The Deputy Institutional Official leads a Cabinet comprised of a wide range of stakeholders to find solutions that balance multiple, and often competing, resource priorities. Supports the University in achieving its academic mission by assuring compliance with all applicable federal, state and local animal welfare regulations that govern the use of animals in research and teaching. In close collaboration with the Attending Veterinarian and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and staff to ensure regulatory matters, animal welfare & research facilitation are balanced with efficient daily operations and long-range academic and facility needs.
