The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (commonly referred to as Nebraska, UNL or (NU) (www.nebraska.edu) is a public university system with administrative offices located in Lincoln, Nebraska, United States. It is the state's only public university system and is comprised of the following campuses: the University of Nebraska at Kearney, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
The university was chartered in 1869 as a land-grant university under the 1862 Morrill Act, two years after Nebraska's statehood into the United States. UNL is an educational institution of international stature listed by the Carnegie Foundation within the "Research Universities (very high research activity)" category and a member of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU).
In 1998, Nebraska launched a P-16 initiative - a state effort to improve success for students at every level, preschool through college. Through the years, as the P-16 Initiative gained visibility and momentum, the need for the initiative also increased. The VP for P-16 provides leadership for the development, coordination, and implementation of P-16 statewide initiatives responsible for developing and advancing programs to prepare students for the workforce and lifelong learning by promoting an effective, seamless pre-K to workforce education system in Nebraska working closely with university, state and regional higher education, K-12 and early childhood leaders; state and federal policymakers; business leaders; and other stakeholders.
