Dr. Joel R. Stegall Senior Consultant
Dr. Joel Stegall has more than 35 years of higher education and academic administration experience serving as Department Chair, Dean, Vice President for Academic and International Programs, as well as interim President on behalf of private institutions and research universities. He most recently served as interim Dean and consultant to Salem College School of Music.
Dr. Stegall’s administrative career has included Chair of the Music department at Mars Hill College, nine years as Dean of the Music School at Ithaca College, five years as Dean of the Department of Music at the University of Florida, and twelve years as Vice President of Academic Affairs and International Programs at Shenandoah University. As Vice President at Shenandoah University during a time of rapid growth, he led ten to twenty faculty and administrative searches each year.
He has been directly involved with more than 300 academic searches including Deans of the schools of Arts and Sciences, Pharmacy, Business, Education, and Nursing. In addition, Dr. Stegall has consulted at institutions such as Auburn University, Anderson College, the University of Tulsa, Meredith College, Salem College, Butler University, Wingate University, University of St. Thomas, James Madison University and the Washington Internship Institute.
Dr. Stegall founded, raised money for, and administered a Russian/American exchange program. In recognition of his efforts, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Ulyanovsk State University in Ulyanovsk, Russia and a Gold Medal from the Russian Peace Foundation in Moscow. In addition, he was been responsible for exchange agreements with more than 35 universities in South America, Japan, China, Taiwan, England and Denmark. He has traveled for academic purposes to Canada, Japan, England, Germany, France, and Russia (14 trips). His CV includes more than 35 journal articles, book chapters, or scholarly presentations.
Dr. Stegall has an earned Ph.D. degree (Education) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master of Music Education degree at the University of North Texas, and a Bachelor of Arts degree (English) at Wake Forest University. |
