University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, has selected Harris Search Associates, a top higher education executive search firm, to lead its Chair of Rehabilitation Science search. 

The School of Public Health and Health Professions (SPHHP) at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, seeks a Chair for the Department of Rehabilitation Science. The Department has longstanding history of excellence in clinical education in programs leading to the Doctor of Physical Therapy, the BS/MS in Occupational Therapy, and the PhD in Rehabilitation Science. The Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy programs have enjoyed continuous accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) and the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) for more than 60 years. The School of Public Health and Health Professions is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).

The University at Buffalo is the State University of New York's largest and most comprehensive research-intensive university and is its primary center for professional education and training. We are Middle States Commission on Higher Education accredited and a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU). The University at Buffalo was recently selected by the NIH to receive the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) and SPHHP is an active participant in that award.

UB seeks a Chair with a strong record of excellence in academic leadership and scholarly activity including peer-reviewed extramurally funded research and enthusiasm to grow the Department's academic and research programs. Available resources include state of the art research facilities in gait, balance, human performance, and a simulation center. Opportunities for collaboration are available with individuals from departments within the School including Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, Epidemiology and Environmental Health, Biostatistics, and Community Health and Health Behavior. Additional collaborative opportunities are available with investigators from the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, the Schools of Nursing, Dental Medicine, Social Work, and Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, and the Center for Assistive Technology. Additionally, the School has strong ties with the College of Arts and Sciences and the Schools of Architecture and Planning and Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Candidates must have a Ph.D., or equivalent, in a related discipline. Previous clinical experience in physical therapy or occupational therapy is highly desired. A strong track record of successful administrative leadership is preferred. The candidate should also have experience in education and the ability to provide leadership for the department's programs. Collaborative skills are essential. Significant scholarship is expected with demonstrated academic experience such that the candidate can be appointed to the rank of full professor

The faculty are engaged in research broadly related to rehabilitation and disability including neuromuscular function, stroke, rehabilitation of multiple sclerosis, and cerebral palsy, and adaptive technology. Rehabilitation Science faculty also collaborate with other regional affiliated institutions and hospital systems in the western NY region. The SPHHP is active in extramural research with most funding coming from the NIH.
